MailMarshal SMTP

m86_security_logoSPAM control, Anti-virus Protection and Advanced Content Filtering for Email

MailMarshal SMTP acts as an email gateway to your organization by filtering all incoming and outgoing email at your network/Internet perimeter. MailMarshal blocks incoming email threats such as spam, phishing, viruses, malware and Denial of Service attacks. MailMarshal also enforces acceptable use policies and ensures compliance with data leakage prevention policies.

MailMarshal can be deployed as a single standalone solution. Or, multiple, geographically distributed MailMarshal servers can be easily configured in an array to support the largest of enterprise environments with minimal administration.

Deployment

Deployment

MailMarshal SMTP is designed to be deployed as the first receiving email gateway in your organization. It is typically deployed in the DMZ between your network firewall and the trusted internal network.

A typical MailMarshal deployment with MailMarshal acting as the email gateway.

MailMarshal can be deployed in a standalone configuration with database logging and the administration console located within your trusted environment. MailMarshal is also specifically designed to support multiple distributed mail processing servers configured in an array. The array is managed centrally by the MailMarshal Array Manager which can control and manage multiple nodes. Administration can be performed locally or remotely via the MailMarshal Web Console.

Blended Threat Detection

SECURITY | Blended Threats Module

The Blended Threats Module for MailMarshal SMTP 6.7 provides unique protection against blended email threats. It is an optional service which uses the M86 Security cloud-based malware behavior analysis datacenter to observe and determine the malicious nature of embedded URLs in email messages. The Blended Threats Module provides a constantly updated library of known malicious URLs to block blended email threats.

Blended email threats are a considerable security risk to organizations. They are emails which contain embedded URL links to malicious websites hosting malware and browser vulnerability exploits. They are a serious problem as most traditional anti-malware measures are ineffective against them. Blended threats circumvent normal signature-based email anti-virus solutions by avoiding attachment of the malware to the email. Instead a recipient of a blended threat is encouraged to click on a link in an email through social engineering. Common ploys include links to news headlines, online videos or holiday e-cards. The sites linked to by blended threats often appear legitimate, adding to the social engineering pretence and luring users into clicking on a download and infecting themselves with malware – typically a Botnet client.
